River Cleanups

PTRF holds two annual river cleanups each year. The first occurs in May-June in association with National River Cleanup Week. The second is on October along with North Carolina Big Sweep. To date, PTRF volunteers have removed more than 2.5 tons of trash from the Tar-Pamlico River and creeks since 2006.

Second Annual Riverkeeper Cup Cleanup Challege

Our next river cleanup will be on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Volunteer for this year's Riverkeeper Cup Cleanup Challenge.

Riverkeeper Cup Volunteer Coordinators Needed!

Volunteers are needed in the communities of Louisburg, Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Greenville and Washington to assist PTRF staff in organizing for our Annual Spring River Cleanup-- "Riverkeeper Cup Cleanup Challenge".  The challenge was initiated last year, with the City of Greenville narrowly beating out the city of Washington by collecting 1,220 pounds of trash from the Tar River.

Volunteers that are willing to help organize a cleanup in their community would be expected to attend two organizational meetings (location in the community), be responsible for organizing and enlisting volunteers for the cleanup, and be present on the day of the cleanup. Email Heather Deck to volunteer.
